"I call on the European Parliament to abolish direct and indirect subsidies to intensive farming and find a legislative definition for this sector.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nation, the livestock supply chain is responsible for 14.5 percent of all human-caused greenhouse gas (GHG) releases. Many other reliable scientific researches describe agriculture and farming as the major cause of the climate emergency.
Nonetheless, the European Union persists in subsiding intensive farming through its policies.
The current CAP, Common Agricultural Policy corresponds to nearly 40% of the total EU budget. Approximately 70% of CAP budget goes to factory farms.
Furthermore, farming is exempt from a price on its GHG emissions. It should be brought into the ETS immediately and fully. This would not only drastically reduce highly impacting land-use, it would also raise the revenue needed to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
Let’s stop using european taxpayers money to fund an industry that pollutes air, water and often mistreats animals".
